SFO, Oakland or San Jose: the airport sets the day

SFO is about 14 miles from downtown, 25 to 45 minutes by road. Oakland is about 19 miles. San José Mineta is about 47. A delegate who books San Jose to save on a flight and then has a 9 a.m. Moscone session has a long morning ahead. Check the airport code on every itinerary before you size the airport car service.

At SFO, charter pickups must be pre-arranged and load in courtyards on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim level. Tell passengers which level before they land. One passenger waiting on the wrong floor holds the whole vehicle.

Restricted streets decide the pickup address

San Francisco restricts vehicles carrying 8 or more passengers, and those over 3 tons, on a listed set of streets. A hotel on one of them may need a pickup point around the corner. Tour buses may not double-park or idle past 5 minutes.

Specify the exact hotel address, not just the neighborhood. If it sits on a restricted street, the operator names a legal pickup point, and you send that to guests in advance. Group transportation here works when passengers are at the curb when the vehicle arrives.

Moscone Center has North, South and West buildings in SoMa. Confirm which one hosts your sessions; the drop point differs. Hotels in Union Square, SoMa and the Financial District make a short corporate shuttle loop. Fisherman's Wharf adds time.

For executives with meetings in the city and dinner at Chase Center or Oracle Park, book the black car as-directed by the hour. Levi's Stadium is in Santa Clara, a different trip altogether.

Muir Woods, Napa and Sonoma with a group

Muir Woods refuses vehicles over 35 feet and requires a parking or shuttle reservation. A standard 45-foot motorcoach is out. Buses of 30 to 35 feet must approach via Highway 1 and Frank Valley Road. Ask for vehicle length on the quote. Napa and Sonoma are each about 46 miles out; for wine country, confirm the tasting-room schedule before the pickup time.

Where does a charter pick up at SFO?

Can a Sprinter pick up outside any San Francisco hotel?

Not always. Vehicles carrying 8 or more passengers are restricted on listed streets. Send the address and the operator confirms a legal pickup point.

Can a motorcoach take our group to Muir Woods?

Not a full-size one. Vehicles over 35 feet are refused. Book a smaller vehicle and secure the reservation Muir Woods requires.

Is it worth flying a team into Oakland instead of SFO?

Oakland is about 19 miles from downtown against about 14 for SFO. The deciding factor is usually the flight schedule, not the drive.
