Fort Lauderdale (FLL) airport car service and port transfers

FLL is about two miles from Port Everglades and four from downtown Fort Lauderdale. Short drives. The planning is all at the curb and the port gate.

Lower-level curbside, with two areas closed

Pre-arranged pickups at FLL use designated lower-level (Arrivals) curbside areas; passengers follow the transportation signs. GTA 2 and GTA 4 curb pickup is closed until further notice. Do not rely on an old instruction from a past trip. The driver confirms the meeting point with you before the day.

Each terminal has a Ground Transportation Booth on the lower level. A traveler who cannot find the car should go there first.

FLL to Port Everglades: two miles, real checkpoints

About 2 miles, 5 to 15 minutes. Port Everglades is the only U.S. seaport next to an international airport. Short does not mean casual. Taxi, limo and bus services need a Port Everglades Business Permit. Coaches use designated areas outside the terminals. Adults need government photo ID at the security checkpoints.

Brief the ID point before anyone boards at FLL. A passport packed in a checked bag under the coach is a slow way to start a cruise.

Timing a cruise-day airport transfer

On embarkation day the risk is the flight, not the drive. Send the flight number, allow for bags, and do not assume the port run absorbs a late landing. Entrances are SE 17th St, State Road 84 and I-595 East; the operator picks the route.

Beyond the port

For conferences, the Broward County Convention Center is beside Port Everglades. For hockey groups, Amerant Bank Arena is in Sunrise. Fort Lauderdale Beach hotels are a short run, and downtown Fort Lauderdale is about 4 miles, 10 to 20 minutes.

Miami hotels are a different matter. The metro stretches from Fort Lauderdale Beach to Brickell; send the exact address and allow a proper drive.
