Galveston cruise transfers from IAH and Hobby

The Port of Galveston is 40 miles from Hobby and 70 from IAH. The port is gated and permit-controlled. Send the terminal and flights; we book a licensed partner operator cleared for Galveston.

Hobby or IAH: the airport sets the day

Hobby is about 40 miles from the port, 45 to 60 minutes. IAH is about 70 miles, about an hour and a half. On sailing day, that difference decides whether a morning flight works at all.

For IAH arrivals, a pre-cruise night in Houston or on the Galveston Seawall takes the pressure off. Specify: airport code, flight numbers, cruise line, terminal, passenger and bag counts. For a family of six with cruise luggage, an SUV is tight; a Sprinter is safer.

Permits, the gate and the toll tag

The port requires an approved permit for all ground transportation operators, with charter bus and shuttle bus as separate permit categories. The port area is gated and needs an AVI/RFID toll tag. The port designates loading, staging and holding areas.

In practice: the operator must hold the right permit for the vehicle type, the tag must be on the vehicle, and the driver uses the designated areas. We book operators that meet all of it.

Four terminals, including Terminal 16

Galveston cruise terminals are 10, 16, 25 and 28. Cruise Terminal 16 opened in November 2025, so older itineraries and guest notes may not mention it. Take the terminal number from the current booking documents.

Group days before sailing can take in The Strand or Moody Gardens. Keep bags with the vehicle only if the operator confirms secure storage.

Questions

How far is the Port of Galveston from Hobby?

About 40 miles, roughly 45 to 60 minutes.

Can I fly into IAH on sailing day?

It is about 70 miles, about 1.5 hours. Choose an early flight or arrive the night before.

Does the operator need a Galveston port permit?

Yes, plus an AVI/RFID toll tag for the gated area. We book operators that hold both.

Which vehicle suits a cruise group of 20 with luggage?

A minibus seats 16 to 19, so it is too small. For 20 people with cruise bags, a midsize coach with under-floor bays is the safer choice.
